The
region is located in the southwest quadrant of the
state, bordered on the west
by Alabama and Florida to the south.
- The
major cities in this region include Albany (Dougherty County),
located in the northern part of the region. Other major cities
in this region include Moultrie (Colquitt County) on the eastern
border of the region, Bainbridge (Decatur County) in the southwestern
corner of the region, Blakely (Early County) on the western border,
and Thomasville (Thomas County) in the southeast corner of the
region.
- A
number of
US Highways pass
through this region, including US Highway 84 that moves east-west
along the southern portion of the region. US Highway 82 runs along
the northern part of the region from east to west, passing through
Albany. Other US Highways in the region include 19, 27 and 319,
all north-south roads.
- In addition to the Ochlockonee
River, which runs through the southeast part of the region, the
Flint River is a major waterway that runs through this region.
At the junction of the Chattahoochee River, Spring Creek and the
Flint River, is the Jim Woodruff Dam, which creates Lake Seminole.
The northern regional boundary is partly formed by Lake Blackshear.
- There are three state parks
located in this region: Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park, Reed Bingham
State Park, and Seminole State Park.
