• The region is located halfway up the Alabama-Georgia State border.
• The major cities in the region include Newnan (Coweta County) and Carrollton (Carroll County), both located near the northern part of the region. Other cities include LaGrange (Troup County), Griffin (Spalding County), and Thomaston (Upson County)
• A portion of Interstate 20 passes through the northern most part of the region in Carroll County. Interstate 85 enters the region from Fulton County and runs through Coweta, Meriwether and Troup Counties on its way to the southeast. Interstate 185 from Columbus to the south of the region connects with Interstate 85 in Troup County. A small portion of Interstate 75 passes through the eastern part of the region.
• US Highway 27 runs north-south along the western border of the region through Carroll, Heard and Troup Counties. Alternate US Highway 27 splits from the main route in the northern part of the region, crossing Interstate 85 just south of Newnan, then moves through the middle of the region heading south. US Highway 19 travels through Griffin to Thomaston, exiting through the southeast corner of the region.
• The Chattahoochee River flows through the region, forming West Point Lake in the southeastern portion of the region at West Point Dam. The Flint River passes through the middle of the region on its way south,and the Little Tallapoosa River flows southeast through the northern portion of the region.
• Some of the state parks in the region are John Tanner, Sprewell Bluff and Indian Springs State Parks. The Little White House, a state historic site, is centrally located in the southern portion of the region.
