• The region lies in the heart of the state.

  • The major cities in the region are Macon (Bibb County) and Warner Robins (Houston County) in the center of the region, Perry (Houston County) and Fort Valley (Peach County) to the south and Milledgeville (Baldwin County) in the northeastern area of the region.

  • Interstate 16 runs through the region northwest to southeast, through Macon. Interstate 75 also passes through Macon, coming from the south and leaving the region to the northwest. Interstate 475 connects the two sides of Interstate 75 north and south of Macon.

  • US Highways that run through the region are 341 from northwest to southeast, 129 from north to south through the center of the region and 441 running north to south along the eastern border of the region.

  • The region's rivers include the Little River in the north and the Oconee in the east. The Towaliga River flows from the northwest border of the region into the Ocmulgee. The Oconee provides the region's eastern border and the Flint provides the western border. The Ocmulgee River flows throughout the central part of the region.

  • The High Falls State Park lies on the northwestern corner of the region, near the Towaliga River. Also, the Georgia Agricenter lies in the southern part of the region near Perry. There are a number of national sites such as the Oconee National Forest, the Chattahoochee National Forest around Lake Juliette, Piedmont National Wildlife and Ocmulgee National Monument.
